Robert B. Simpson is a retired Army officer who served in many areas of the world over three decades. At the end of his active service, all of it in the Infantry, he settled in Georgia, close enough to an Army post to be lulled to sleep by the sound of weapons firing. A lover of horses for a lifetime, he was owned for many years by Gringo, a Palomino gelding, and Gringo's companion, Chica, a tiny Shetland mare. He is a freelance writer and author of "Through the Dark Waters: Searching for Hope and Courage."
