![]() Janet Huntington was born in Racine, Wisconsin but grew up in Colorado and survived a Catholic high school education at Benet Hill Academy School for Girls. After studying graphic design at Colorado State University, Janet waded into life with two horses, a job as a waiter and the hopes of becoming an illustrator and horse trainer. She illustrated numerous children’s books, book covers and greeting cards before giving in to the lure of playing cowboy. She began training horses full time and spent the next 15 years studying the art of the reined cow horse, culminating in a top ten finish at the National Reined Cow Horse association Celebration of Champions. Janet became a reporter and columnist with the El Paso County and Fountain Valley News after retiring as a trainer and began writing a blog, The Mugwump Chronicles, where she shares stories about the horses she has known and discussions about training and fair treatment for the horses she loves. The Mugwump Chronicles averages 40,000 page views a month, is read worldwide and continues to grow at a steady pace. She has been a consistent winner of the Humorous Column Award for the Colorado Press Association. Janet lives in Southern Colorado with her family, her dogs and her horses, Odin and Madonna.
